What is Hook?

Hook The hook hand is a hand with the fingers and thumb pressed together and arched downward in the form of a talon. Usually the hook is turned from the palm. (Fig.4-3). The hook hand is a catch and hold method used in attack and defence, and has four functions—hooking, catching, locking and holding. The catching and holding method of Tai Chi Chuan directs its targets at the membrance, arteries and veins, muscles and acupoints. It employs the methods of cutting, holding, catching and closing to find the right points through rubbing , wiping, pushing and measuring. It is not limited to twist the mucles and bones, but concentrates on holding the channels for energy flow of the opponent, and taking advantage of the opponent's force to disable him. The hook hand is also a method for training the wrist and achieving finger power.
