Chen style Tai Chi (Chuan) - Chen style Taiji (Quan):

Chen Style Tai Chi is widely acknowledged as the oldest and the ancestor of all the other Tai Chi styles. Chen Style Tai Chi is practised both for its health and exercise benefits and as an effective method for self defence and can be seen as a series of coordinated movements which flow smoothly and gracefully into each other combined with Chi Gong breathing techniques. The Chen style today is known for its low postures and vigorous martial art training.

Generally, there are 2 empty hand Form sets in Chen Tai Chi: 1st routine (YiLu) and 2nd routine (ErLu) also known as Cannon Fist or PaoChui. The 1st routine is softer. This form is used as a tool to help develop a student’s strength, balance, coordination, and understanding of basic Tai Chi principles. Because of this characteristic, not only this is an essential form for beginners to learn, it is also beneficial for those who want to practice Tai Chi for health reasons. The 2nd routine is more complex. It is geared more toward the development of explosive power and fighting techniques. There are many fast, powerful, and hard movements. Beside from empty hand training, Chen style uses several weapons like sword, staff, broadsword (saber), spear and halberd among others.

Also, Chen style Tai Chi include Old Frame (Lao Jia), New Frame (Xin Jia), Small Frame (Xiao Jia) Tai Chi. Chen Style is rich with combat techniques that are practical and effective, making it more enticing to younger people.
